San Francisco Residence

San Francisco, CA

Residential Renovation and Addition

Transforming the original cramped service kitchen of this 1890s San Francisco Victorian into a more spacious room within the confines of a long narrow building footprint proved to be the primary design challenge of this interior renovation. Subtle design changes, such as opening up the kitchen to an adjoining family room and adding a new bay window to the latter helped to reinforce a more expansive visual connection through the house. Among the other improvements to the home, the conversion of a furnace closet into a powder room helped to enhance the utility of the entry hall, and was a welcome amenity in a house lacking excess usable space.
